50 to 30 dog bone Adapter

Unfortunately, your picture is no a 50 to 30 adapter. Looks like a female 30 amp and a male 30 amp.

Sometimes you will find only 30 amps available in a CG if it's busy and you can be stuck with a bad pedestal. Some older CGs only have 30 amps available throughout. In this case, you can use a 30 amp to 30 amp 18" "extender" dogbone adapter like the Camco 55205 in the photo. This way, if your extender's plug goes up in smoke and flames, you will hopefully only lose your $20 extender. We carry one around now.

Another thing I've found is that some pedestals won't allow you to fully insert your plug into the 30 amp recept. because the plug housing hits the pedestal enclosure which can cause/add to problems. We are at a Thousand Trails right now that has a new pedestal installed made by Heritage and our Conntek plug only goes in part way (about 3/4?). This would be another reason to plug into 50 amps.

I just did this last week. GREAT idea. Less chance of a breaker popping and the air conditioning shutting off.

I use mine when I think the plug in at the boxes have been well used. Two years ago we were camping in July at a full park. Yep...I hooked into the 50 AMP side.

When i was at M B travel park last year, one of the maintenance guys recommended that I hook up that way whenever possible.

If the hookup site I go to has 50a plugs, I always use my 50-30 adapter and plug into the 50a on the pedestal for my 30a trailer.

No issues at all.

This is a schematic of what they look like... You can see where only one leg of the 50AMP service is tapped by the 30A female socket.

You will be plugging into a 50AMP source but your trailer is protected by its 30AMP main breaker.

If you try to use more than 30AMPS it just trips your trailer breaker.

We also like to have a good 20AMP Extension cord along with us as well. We will plug into the camp ground 20AMP SERVICE to run all of our outside items and portable electric heater when it starts cooling down at nights.

I just got mine last year and it works great. I have noticed that the voltage doesn`t drop as much as it used to! maybe it`s just me, but it does seem that way. I don`t hear any of the 110V appliances drop down when something turns on. maybe I`ll get a voltage reader to verify this year.

I use mine every time I can for the same reason you are. It will possibly preserve your TT 30A male prongs.
