50amp surge guard in 30 amp service?

I have a Surge Guard 30amp surge protector. It's left over from when we had the Cougar 5th wheel. When we went to the Montana 5th wheel I bought a portable Progressive Industies 50 amp Electrical Management System. The Progressive had much better warranty and reviews than the Surge Guard.
So, is it OK to use the 50amp with the dogbone adapter down to 30 amp service hooked to my soon to be Bigfoot? I would prefer to use the Progressive 50 amp and I can't think of any bad consequences, but...

  • Yes, I do that all the time when there is no 50 amp service. :)
  • The 50A PI unit doesn't have a clue about what's connected to its output. Could be one leg or the other, both legs, 120V only or 240V only or a combination of 120/240V.

    I know - very very few RVs use the 240V capability.

    I never had an issue with the Surge Guard brand but it seems a lot of others have. Since I already have the Progressive...
  • I thought I had read on their website that is was fine to do so I took a quick look and it does work fine
