Wow, I buy 12 quarts (3 gallons) of Shell Rotella T6 Synthetic 5W-40 for my Diesel at $70 ish bucks with tax! I'm sure if you DIY, you can buy the oil you need for about $40 ish dollars, then your mopar oil filter for under 10 bucks.
In regards to the grade you see on the oil, the lower number is the oil grade at 40 degrees centigrade. The higher number is the oil grade at 100 degrees centigrade. The lower grade (also dubbed "Winter" which is the "W" letter after the number) is pretty much the number at startup. The viscosity is much lower at colder temperatures, allowing the oil to quickly flow and flood the oil galleries in an engine block. The larger number/grade occurs because of the polymers the chemists engineer into the oil that expand with heat. These polymers thicken the oil relatively. For example, 5W-40 oil will flow much better at 40 degrees celsius or less than straight 30 grade oil. However, once the oil is fully warmed-up at 100 degrees celsius, the 5W-40 will actually be thicker than the straight 30 grade oil if you compared them at the same temp at the same time.
