Why does the 6.4 require special oil???
It's a new low friction thing - zero weight. I read it reduces fuel consumption by 1% due to the lower resistance.
I'm heading in for my third change this weekend and have found quite a variation between dealers in my area. The first change was around $50 with a coupon from a dealer's website. The next one was close to what the OP paid at around $100. My truck is a company vehicle so I just take it to the dealer. It also keeps the warranty folks happy. Not that I can't keep the warranty intact and do it myself. It's just easier keeping all the records at the dealers.
Wrong... If they specified a oil for reduced fuel consumption they would not have specified a 40 weight oil.
