I'm now thinking that may be a good option considering towing mpg between the gassers and the diesels are almost identical from my research.
I don't know how you did your research or where you got your info but you're flat out incorrect.
Modern diesels will net you about 25 to 27% better mileage. Before emissions they would net you around 30%.
That said, the Ram gasser is a nice truck. If it fits your needs then I would consider it.
I should have put that differently. I know diesels get better mileage. What I meant was my mileage pulling my 7600# bumper pull is within 1-1.5mpg of the guys I know with new duramaxs pulling their 5vers. We are all getting about 10. They could get more but they like to pull at 75mph. I just meant that gap has closed up some with modern gas engine/drive train combos plus mpg robbing emission equipment on the diesels.
Apples to apples, same speed, same aero, same weight if you get a diesel you will get about 25% better than any gas engine.
IOW's if you get 10.0 with your new 6.4 you will get about 12.5 with a diesel.
I've towed with both gas and diesel. I don't have any problem with either. They both tow good. If you put both side by side and I can have one for free I would pick the diesel. But then again I'm not paying the bill either. :B
A lot of people on this forum like to spend other peoples money...…..including me! :B
In all seriousness if you don't have the money for the diesel get the 6.4. It will tow great for what you have.
