I don't know how you did your research or where you got your info but you're flat out incorrect.
Modern diesels will net you about 25 to 27% better mileage. Before emissions they would net you around 30%.
That said, the Ram gasser is a nice truck. If it fits your needs then I would consider it.
I should have put that differently. I know diesels get better mileage. What I meant was my mileage pulling my 7600# bumper pull is within 1-1.5mpg of the guys I know with new duramaxs pulling their 5vers. We are all getting about 10. They could get more but they like to pull at 75mph. I just meant that gap has closed up some with modern gas engine/drive train combos plus mpg robbing emission equipment on the diesels.
Your test is faulty. You have too many variables to even make an assumption. Different trucks, different trailers, and different speeds. There is no reasonable way to make any conclusions from that sample or formula.
