Just doing the one side. After discussion with the mechanic, It's not a common occurance in the 6.4. I'm going to gamble that I can get by without this problem until I get another truck. The Mods should terminate because YOU don't like what is being said? You say "bash session" I say information for the uninformed!

I`m just very happy I never bought a Ford diesel after the 7.3L. every one after has some sort of significant $$$$$$$ issue! My next HD truck, If I buy one, will be a Ram (Dodge).

To the OP, I'd hook up and put that truck through its paces pretty hard close to town before pointing it straight north.
Just thinking if there's an issue after a major repair, it'll be easier to deal with the dealer that just fixed it and it's likely their issue, than with the next shop down the road.

I haven't bought a new vehicle since 1998 so can not comment on the lifetime maintenance on vehicles but most vehicles I bought used needed some overdue and preventative maintenance to keep them running well not to mention unplanned repairs.

Most engines have some sort of weakness and reputations but the 6.0L and somewhat the 6.4L might be at the top especially when speaking about diesels. Knowing what I know and have spent on my diesels I wouldn't buy one without knowing their history of recalls, technical bulletins, updates, potential problems and some assurance of where I could get it repaired affordably by someone who has mastered them. Otherwise I would buy new(er) and let the dealership worry about it with the warranty.

To the OP I feel for you being a previous 6.4L owner myself. If the dealership (or someone here) could tell you why the HG blew and reassure you that the cause is resolved now I would agree with those who say to keep it. But it doesn't seem the dealership knows why so unless you are willing to try to find the answer yourself or wait to see if it experiences further issues I would agree maybe you should unload it for your peace of mind.

Oh yes the BIL story again, fact is if your BIL actually owned one and used it as a truck he would have had any issues with it. The issue with the soot was do to the trucks being used as highway queens and not trucks. These are the facts Troy!

As for your "Fact is there's more 6.0 PSD still on the road today than those Blue Tec Cummins" at what cost to the Ford owner? The 5.9 Cummins is 100 times the engine the 6.0 or 6.4 could ever hope to be and that is without having to throw thousands of dollars at it to make it last.

Keep defending fomoco Diesel engines. But show me any other high pressure diesel from the last 15 years that needs 5 grand in internal mods just to make it down the road in stock trim under 100kmi besides the 6.0 and 6.4?
Powderchokes blowing head gaskets has exactly zero to do with the epa unless you're blaming them for limiting what Ford was able to use for head bolts and gaskets.

Well it's nice to see how uninformed some are. This and the previous generations of "Ford Diesel" was a NAVISTAR diesel, that Ford bought and paid for to put in their trucks.(And subsequently sued them for and ditched them because of). Just like Dodge (does dodge still exist lol), and Government Motors. And all 3 brands had junk under the hood at various times in the past 10 years. My fleet involvement in the past 15 years tells me that they are all expensive, repair prone, and not reliable. Diesels only shine when compared to the garbage 50's tech that the domestics stuck with well past it's expiry date. The gas engines are thousands cheaper, operate just as long prior to the inevitable multi thousand dollar repair, and for a similar price, you can drop in a new one and still take a cruise with all the moey you saved.

I highly doubt that the people on the lengthy list of the Cummins high mileage club would agree with you.

Crazy thing is my BIL had a 04 6.0PSD and got the new truck bug and decided to try a 09 ram 6.7 cummins. He was forced to unload the ram after 9 months of soot clogging the egr, turbo, and DPF. It's been his worst truck to date.
