The pliers method works but it's hard on the plier handles....
I'd say 15 seconds maximum, 10 would be better.
I have to replace mine in my 7.3 in the spring along with the injector harness on the passengers side. Parts are cheap really. It's the labor that costs but in my case I'm the labor. 7.3's are good for roasting the through connector that feeds the glo plugs and injector signals under the valve cover gasket.
About a month ago I fired it up with the hood open and smelled something cooking and looked at the valve cover on the passengers side and the back connector was cooking away. I still get a good injector trigger but the glo plugs aren't getting any juice so it's a PITA to start. Such is life.
