I didn’t see where they said they’re outfitting the gasser with the 10speed.
They should though. Is the premise that GM couldn’t make enough of them to supply the gasser too?
Plus the article doesn’t discern between the half tons and HDs which are 2 totally different transmissions.
Presumably trying to ramp up both?
I don’t know enough about automobile production economies of scale, but GM seems to be all backasswards especially with half tons. Is 5 different engines and 3 different transmissions and 3 different transfer cases in just one truck model (1500s) the best way to go for profitability?
Ford has 5 engines and 2 transmissions. Ram has 3 engines and 1 transmission.
Would there be less trucks sold if the mfgs economized their offerings?
GM could (maybe they are) just in their truck line, dump 3 different transmission lines. The light and heavy 6 speed and the light 8 speed and simplify the entire process.
Just my simple thoughts. Idk if a 10speed really costs $2k more to produce than a 6 speed though.
