6.O diesal Truck trade or fix

Its certainly the case in this part of the Country and from what I have read its like that all over the US. If you don't see it, maybe your not familiar with what prices are, even though a Ford 6.0 is cheaper than other options, its still real money. So perhaps "can be had cheap" is rather relative.

Not true around here. I wish I could find all these low priced trucks you folks keep talking about. Fact is around here they do NOT exist.

Went to an auction last year - forest service trucks -a mix of mainly Fords and GM.

The 6.0s went for much less than the GMs or even the older Fords - it was startling how no one wanted them.

It was mainly dealers bidding and I guess they knew what the things were worth.

Sucks to keep reading about your troubles. I almost nearly certain the ruptured turbo hose is a result of over-boost considering the preceding repairs. This is because the failed EGR cause the Unison ring in your turbo to rust up. You need turbo rebuild to fix the root of the problem. I have seen this exact sequence failures first hand.

Read Bryan's post again because IMHO he is on the money and 100% correct. If it goes overboost too many times you will be looking at head gaskets to.

And so begins the cascade failures that the 6.0 is known for.

Please tell me if the following narrative is typical?

Got the EGR cooler fixed...now I need a turbo rebuild..
So, fix the turbo at about what? $1500.00?
Then pray the over boost didn't stretch the head bolts....dang..it did... Now new head gaskets for $3500 ish with studs.... l I hope I didn't burn a piston up.

Anything else typically in the story that I am missing ?

Around here, BC Canada it is indeed fact. A $5000 difference at least between the brands. Not many dealers want them. Looked at an 08 Dodge a couple months back. Mileage was about 4000 kms less on the Dodge. Difference once they had all the stuff added up. $25,xxx.

Yes you did... Pistons don't get burnt by a failed Head Gasket.

If the EGR cooler was replaced guess what had to be removed in the process? You guessed it the CAC tube and the plastic tube. These rubber tubes after time get exposed to oil and heat and become brittle. It probably should have been replaced with the EGR cooler. Sticking turbo's are usually a bi-product of the vehicle setting for long periods and then rusting. With 201k miles on the truck this vehicle has barely sat parked. These trucks have a turbo boost gauge and it's easy to identify if a over boost condition occurs and I believe the engine light will come on indicating a problem.

Hey Davin! I've been following your story on your other thread and hope that you make it home safe and sound. I just wanted to let ya know that no matter how rich and powerful Bill Gates has become you DO NOT have to capitalize the W in window unless your referring to his operating system! :)
