I know dealers that installed AM performance parts and when a problem arose had to remove them for warranty repair approvals by ford, particularly if a engineer was coming to check the vehicle out!

Yes if you have $60-70k for a new truck go for it, but if willing to keep your present truck get it checked out and then make a decision based on the information presented as a result. Just remember nothing is ever certain, new trucks fail just as older ones do.

The guy probably spent a fortune to get 107 mph in the quarter mile. My son used to race his 98 Cummins 4x4 regular cab. 420 rwhp on BD's dyno. He built the trans, Industrial injection dragon flow injectors, Edge drag comp box. With that combo that cost around 5K and NO engine mods and the stock turbo he hit 103 mph and 12.78 sec in the 1/4 mile at Spokane International Raceway. So yes MUCH less to power up a Cummins.

Are you saying the stock Ford trans is good to 500 RWHP? It may make the power but for how long? My son's Ram has been abused and it just keeps going at 200K. Engine has never been touched.

Here's another eye opener... My BIL had a 04 Ford 6.0 psd and ran the pizz out of that truck pulling fertilizer tanks, cattle trailers, and various farm and ranch duties and it never missed a lick. He later traded it in for a 09 Dodge 6.7 cummins and that truck spent many days in the Chrysler shop. After nine months of Chrysler jerking him around and never really fixing his truck it was sold. He purchased a 07 Dodge DRW 5.9 cummins that's been a pretty good truck to date.

Because of his performance of his 04 Power Stroke I purchased a 05 Power Stroke and drove that truck for 7 years ~170k miles with only a few minor issues.

We purchased a used RAM 5.9 cummins last year and it's been problematic to say the least that we'll need to decide before spring to invest more $$$ in it to get it where it needs to be for us to use as a work truck, or cut or losses and find another truck.

If a person is risk adverse, and you plan on RVing for another 10 years or so, your retired, and you have the financial ability, I would upgrade now to a new or near new tow vehicle. That would carry you on warranty half way through your planned RV usage. Biting the bullet now, could provide an lot of peace of mind as years and miles click by.

If money is tight I would roll the 6.0 out the door and locate a used Duramax or Cummins.

I see no scenario where keeping and updating the 6.0 makes sense for this guy. Personally if I was unfortunate enough to own a 6.0 (while I have not, the family farm had several of them) I might roll the dice and fix it, but certainly not if I am retired, want something dependable and don't want to wrench on a POS on the side of the road. I don't see Bulletproofed 6.0's bringing any more money, at least not here. Any money put into a 6.0 is virtually wasted as to resale (be it repair or bulletproofing).

The last place you want to be is FORCED to drop big money into it. Right now, the only asskicking your taking is on the terrible resale, I would consider that a win (in the case of a 6.0). Keeping it, jeopardizes that fortunate position.

Unload it.
If you dump all that money into it to prevent motor issues, it is approaching the age and mileage where all the other things will start going wrong which is going to be even more money.
At that point then the trimmings will start to look tired, seat start losing support, weather stripping starts drying and leaking water/wind noise.

If you are 63 now, you probably won't want to shell out for a new truck four or five years from now.

Some folks throw some hefty figures out there.

I did not look at cheby or dodge but did order a 2012 F250 gasser with 4.30 diffy, rated for towing something like 15000 :h out the door for 36 and change. Realistically you can get there for less than 60-70K.

Regular ole factory gauges work fine. But you will spend about 30% more in fuel.

I would think that with the cost of diesel vs. gas in the southeast, the cost per mile for fuel for a new 250/2500 gasser vs. a new 250/2500 diesel is getting much closer than 30%.
