Not saying at all that I'm the perfect driver, but do feel like posted max is there for a reason. Seems like if the posted is 55, folks think that really means 60....65 really means 75. Just seems like having a radar is more like a way to go above the posted speed and lessen the chances of getting caught. I try to stay within whatever the speed for that area is. You betcha there are times I find my foot has gotten heavier, but most of the time I use cruise set at the posted speed.
In 1973, due to an oil crisis, congress arbitarly enacted the National Maixium Speed law(55) in order to reduce gasoline consumption. . The results were debated and the impact on safety is unclear and unproven.
The law was widley disregarded by drivers. In 1995 the 55mph speed was repealed, returning the the choice of speed limits to each state. The Basic Speed Law means you may not drive faster than is SAFE for current road conditions, regardless of the posted speed limit. What is SAFE for one driver may not be for another driver. Thanks for sharing your perspectives:)
