Day. 4: The Eagle has landed!!! We are cozied in at a nice campground in Colorado Springs! It is beautiful here!!! It was an awesome and eventful day! Let me begin:
DW has had type 1 (insulin dependent) diabetes for more than 45 years. As a result she has Advanced Diabetic Retinopathy. Praise God she can still see very well but light and distance sometimes play tricks on her. For example last year we took a cruise to Alaska. She sat up on deck for hours watching the Penguins playing on the shore. I didn't have the heart to tell her there are no penguins in Alaska... Well today driving across the western part of Kansas she was mesmorized by the beautiful wild flowers, lakes, and the flocks of birds "dancing" in the sky!!! Without her I would have seen thousands and thousands of acres of nothing but green. I didn't tell her there were no windflowers, no lakes, and the birds she saw were the propellers of wind farms off in the distance. This is why I love road trips with my DW!!!
Today was 260 of the hardest miles so far. We were traveling up most of the way and are currently at 7000 feet above sea level at the very foot of the Rockies. Remember we live on the coast in south Florida, elevation o.o so this is awesome to us! I locked out of overdrive and maintained a solid 60mph the whole way running at about 190degres and averaging 6mpg.
We were driving along this beautiful two lane road following directions from our navi when the pavement ended... Yep ended. According to navi we still had 57 miles left to go on this road. Hhmmmm..... Went into settings and programmed in avoid unpaved roads. Navi said make a u turn and go back twenty miles to where we got on this road. Remember I said it was two lanes. I can't make a u-turn in two lanes. Fortunately I only had to back up about half a mile and I was able to swing the trailer into a dirt cut out and make the u-turn. Hey, what's a little mud on the tires? Besides DW sung my praises the whole way! :-)
Well the roads today were kinda bumpy. Things got tossed about a bit in the TT. Well it seems the bottle of shampoo popped out of its holder and spilled the entire contents onto the shower floor. DW thought turning on the shower and washing it down the drain would be a good idea.... Not so much! Bubbles everywhere!!! Coming up the sink drains, half way up the shower stall, running over the ledge and filling the bathroom floor. Puppy thought it was great fun running through it! TT floor is spotless and the whole camper smells like, well like shampoo.
Had the check engine light diagnosed... Oxygen sensor. I live at 0.0 elevation. I am now at 7000ft. Oxygen sensor. He said it should go off when I get home.
Fixed the black tank indicator. I hooked up the sewer line. I no longer look at the indicator.
As for the gas cap problem.... Well I still have to open the gas cap to start the van. I have an appointment for 8:00 in the morning at the mechanic the campground recommended. I went there today and he said there are a couple of valves and relays involved in controlling the vacuum in the gas tank and he will check it out tomorrow.
Well, I think that's it for today if anyone is still reading.....
