Thursday 6/26: if you remember I had an 8:00am appointment to have the gas cap/not starting issue looked at. I woke up to the smells of ham and eggs cooking and bread being gently warmed in the oven! A special treat! With DWs diabetes bread is a rare occurrence... What was I thinking? DW thought it would be good to bring the mechanics a good breakfast along with some fresh donuts we picked up heading over there. "Trust me" she said, "I know how to handle men." Well we left the van and rode our bicycles back to the Campground. Downhill the whole way!!! It was great!!! An hour later the mechanic called and said the van was ready. We walked back.... We re not stupid! If we rode downhill the whole way to the campground it would have been uphill back to the repair shop. Nay Nay!!!
"All it needed was a new gas cap" said the mechanic. I repeated the story of having put on a new gas cap and it made it worse. He showed me my old gas cap and how it was clogged and the venting wasn't working. Then he showed me the gas cap I had replaced it with and how it was defective and not letting air flow. Then he showed me the new cap he put on and how it worked! So, for the price of ham and egg hoagies, some donuts, and $25.00 the problem is hopefully solved! He also reset the check engine light so it is off but said it will likely come back on as I tow into the higher altitudes.
So the fun continued with visiting the Air Force Academy! It happened to be arrival day for the new cadets!!! I didn't know DW was so patriotic! She was glued to the parade grounds with her binoculars checking out the new cadets and admiring the officers working with them! "Fine young men!" She said. "There are women too." I reminded her. "No reason for either one of us to be looking at them, is there?" She asked.
Then off to the Rodeo Museum! A good stop for us but I don't know if it would appeal to everyone. Went through the whole thing in about an hour. We go to the rodeo a couple of times a year and really enjoy it.
Off to the Cave Dwellings! Amazing how people lived! "I could live like this." I said. "Really? With who?" DW asked.
Off to Minitou Springs for a great dinner and some local shopping. Then back to the camper for some.... Hey what happens in the camper stays in the camper.
