We drove all through Estes Park. The scenery was absolutely beautiful! We had a great picnic in the park right alongside the river. It included an hour nap. At the summit of the park we were treated to an incredible thunderstorm with heavy rains and strong winds! That's the beauty of a van. We hunkered down with soft music and good snack foods and watched the lightening show! Priceless!!!
We weren't very impressed with Boulder.... Did the 16th street pedestrian mall. Had a nice lunch in an outdoor grill. Drove around looking for something interesting. Headed back to Fort Collins.
The drive from Fort Collins to Durango was awesome, exhausting, fantastic, tedious, breathtaking, difficult, magnificent, and intense!!! With some of the incline grades the best I could do was 25 in first gear. Watched the temp gauges and they hovered around 195. Dropped to140 on the downgrades. Used second gear for the downgrades and hardly touched the brakes. We hit some torrential rains with wicked lightening and loved every minute of it! It took us 9 hours to cover the 450 miles. We're spending 4 or 5 days here. The campground is beautiful and located near a huge lake. We plan to rent a boat one day and explore it. I'm not afraid of off roading it and took the van down the dirt paths directly to the lake. More mud!! Yay!!!
3500 miles so far! The outside of the TV and TT are covered in dust and mud! I clean the windows on the TV when we stop for gas and keep the insides of both vehicles clean and tidy, but set up for comfort. Having a great time! Feeling relaxed, renewed invigorated! And for DW and I, closer to God and more appreciative of his awesome and wonderous works!!!
