I'm 6'2" and by definition am 'obese' at 285#. I don't recognize that I am big BUT I am.
I have proof by the number of camping chairs I have broken, the reclining chairs I have worn out, the dining room chairs I have weakened etc.
The bottom entry step to FW has bent...had to re-enforce and the shower floor does creak when I step in.
Add another 100#...yes your BIL is very obese and will end up breaking something.
His weight should not become your problem.
Have an open honest discussion with him about your concerns.
