Everyone has their favorite tuner. "Custom" does not = better or worse. A reputable tuning company, like Hypertech, puts lots of R&D into their tunes, some not so much.
I have had no trouble with mine, and I think you'd be very happy if you tuned yours, no matter if you chose a "custom" tuner (like DP) or an "off the shelf" tuner like Hypertech.
The key is to do your own research and decide for yourself.
You have somewhat of a point ,not knowing Hypertech, I couldn't say one way or the other, but I can speak for Superchip night ,and day difference with it compared to DP tuner. Superchip is a generic off the shelf I assume the same as Hypertech and others. They usually cover pretty much all the Superduty years of the 7.3. DP tunes are tuned to your truck, take into account whether you have larger exhaust, air intake etc etc, and can tweak it as times goes on . Off the shelf programmers are set. Superchip was okay had no problems, but to compare it to custom tunes, no way, if you compare the two , you won't be happy running off the shelf compared to custom tunes. I would never even consider off the shelf again after having custom tunes, there is no comparison . Custom does mean better IMO
