I agree with all the other comments on here...you need a 3/4 ton vehicle.
With that type of dry weight, you can easily be over 8000 lbs.
For your price range I would concentrate on finding a 3/4 ton Ford with the 7.3L diesel or gas, or a gas engine 3/4 ton Chevy.
As long as you don't mind working on vehicles now and than (or paying somebody else to do it), you should be fine with an older vehicle. Even though the engines are fine in these older trucks, it is all the little things that need work as vehicles age.
