Props to this guy for being smart and frugal or maybe it's just because he enjoys driving his truck. I drive 1 of 3 vehicles daily, one of which I've had for 21 years and it's currently 31 years old. Co-workers call it "Mater" or "Rusty," but they can't deny that it has character and has served me well. Looks like hell, but it has never, I repeat, never left me stranded and at 270,000 miles, I wouldn't, and don't think twice about driving it on a 1000 mile road trip. While my other two vehicles are newer and certainly nicer, I "like" driving this one best of all. It's the experience of driving it, for me as the driver, not trying to show off to people I could really care less about.
I think most of the naysayers here are jealous that he's content with what he has in life and has made you feel inadequate because you can't do the things he's capable of doing when it comes to maintaining and keeping a vehicle operational. I have no doubt the truck can keep pace with traffic where he drives it and stop when he needs it to. For you to claim it's dangerous and a threat to public safety puts you in the company of Ralph Nader.
