4.10s have a mechanical advantage over 3.73 at any given RPM. If anything, 4.10s have less of an impact in first gear with first gear ratio and the converter unlocked.

Lower geared rear axles (e.g. 4.10) affect more than just 1st gear. It has the effect of pushing all of the transmission gears closer together. With the increased mechanical advantage in each gear you rev (accelerate) faster to the next shift.
The only time a 3.73 will outperform a 4.10 is if the 4.10 is redlined but cannot pull the next higher gear.
