The 8.1's were in the duallys and the workhorse chassis motorhomes, for a reason.
With the cruise set at 65 it'll hit second on a majority of overpasses, that get's aggravating on a long day of driving.
Upper limit at 9K? That is not even a warm up. I am running at a combined weight of 29K at 5-7K feet with my 2015 3500 with the 6.0L
Towing capacity on my truck is only 9800lbs. Perhaps I shouldn't have singled out the engine alone in my "upper limit" comment. But the with the 6L and the 4L80E combo, yes I'm out the upper limit of what (I) would want to do. BIG difference between mine and your trucks, even with the same engine.
