A Devastating Discovery

I am filling my fresh water tank and notice steady drips of water coming out right below the drivers side jack mount which is on the same side as the water fill. I FREAK OUT.

I open the cabinet door under the sink and I can see the floor is wet and it is wet around the water fill door.

I slowly unscrew the water fill door and pry it off only to see this...

The water fill is completly disconnected.

When this camper was up in Yakima getting an entire new front end cap as the OEM had delaminated, I remember Brad Boyle from Eagle Cap pointing out some upgrades they did including a new water fill door!

I will reconnect it correctly but what in the heck should I do from this point?

I did send some pics and details to Brad Boyle up at Adventurer/Eagle Cap, I will be interested to hear his response.

  • My hose got a hole in it as well. I just spliced in new hose. The filler door wasn't that hard to take off.
  • JMO but, I don't think I would drill/screw the hose to the flange. It seems like that would cause a weak point.

Is the fill hose long enough? If it's a little short maybe that's what caused it to pull loose?
  • We had the city water line split in our Coleman pop up years ago. It flooded the compartment and was running across the entire floor pouring out the door before I could get out of bed and shut off the faucet. We were lucky we were camping where it was arid and everything dried out without rotting, but it was a bad way to wake me up in the middle of the night.
  • I had the same problem on my travel trailer after replacing the hose due to a split. The combination of the sealant along with the slight taper of the fitting makes it very easy for the hose to slide off. What do you all think about putting a small stainless steel screw through the top of the clamp? You'd have to pre-drill it.
Can you get a fan in there to dry it out before sealing it back up?
  • At least it wasn't a long term leak in the sense it only leaked during a fill, and probably only when it topped off as I use one of those long plastic extensions that probably bypassed the area. So I am hopeful that there isn't any long term damage.....

I have a huge fan on it now and will run it for 24 hours then keep some DampRid in that space for some time to draw any other moisture out.
  • The clamp looks like it's tight. They probably just didn't push it far enough onto the flange to hold properly.

I would document any damage, even if you fix it yourself.

Let us know if you get a response.
