A NEW BATTERY ?

Will soon need a new battery for our Kia and was curious if there is a down side to using a Deep Cycle RV batteryas a starting battery? My wife likes to sit in the car and play on her electronics thus draining the battery. Had the battery load tested and was OK. Could be a power draw, maybe brake c ontroller. Maybe my wife on her tablet Any thoughts?

  • Thanks folks. I will look at Costco newt time out. Much apreciated
  • I don't have any experience using a deep cycle as a starting battery, sorry. But I don't think the portable electronics are the problem. A tablet or phone use very little power. I've plugged half a dozen electronics in to charge overnight in my trucks and there was no difference in the battery power the next morning.

If your '08 has its original battery, it is probably overdue for replacement anyway. They can load test ok, but not hold a charge as long as they used to.
  • Hi,

Change over to an AGM battery. They can be deep cycled and produce *lots* of amps for starting.
  • As long as the CCA rating meets the spec you will have no trouble with a deep cycle used for starting.
