A Pilgrim-Hideout showdown

Hello, new here, hoping to get some insights by some that may know...

We are currently deciding between two used travel trailers, one a 2007 Pilgrim International 26 Route 66 Flyer and the other a 2010 Keystone Hideout 26B. Both have the same floor plan and a lot of similarities but some differences and that's where we're struggling.

Both have minor cosmetic damage. Both have the front camper queen however the Pilgrim is 76" long standard camper queen vs Hideout 72" long queen (of which I hang off the end). Extending the Hideout to 76" would be easy but it would also all but removes the walk-around space in the bedroom.

Both have under rear bed and front pass-thru's storage. The Hideout has considerable bigger access doors all around.

Both have the same floor-plan, the Pilgrim has a few more overhead storage areas above the scissor sofa but no pantry as compared to the Hideout. The Pilgrim also seems to have slightly nicer finish (cabinet, fabrics, window dressings).

The Hideout comes with a rear hitch installed (welding in, heavy duty), spare tire, WD hitch, LP tanks, battery. The Pilgrim all of this would need to be 'add-ons' from the dealer.

2007 Pilgrim camper is $10k (with accessories mentioned above and dealer fees) is $11k out the door. The 2010 Hideout is also $11k out the door.

I can't find much on the Pilgrim trailer as far as values, seems a bit high to me but can't confirm that. Pilgrim is also out of business, not too concerned about getting parts besides external panels.

To muddy the waters further, we also like a new Grew Wolf 26DBH but have been told it's a lower quality trailer, and being new it's double the money.

:B Maybe you can see my dilemma, any useful input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

  • Yes Pilgrim is out of business, they also made the Open Road. They made a very nice product, but do feel that price is kind of high for the year, I know when I traded my 2006 Open Road 5th wheel in they always gave me the story that since they were no longer in business their value dropped, guess that was only on the trade in side not selling side.
  • This is not our first camper but the first of this size to be sure. In our market campers of this size are not readily available, wish they were. Appreciate the comments.
  • That is exactly what I did , had fun with a cheap camper and figured out what we wanted .
  • Used 26', no slideout, bunhouse trailers are a dime a dozen. Almost every manufacturer carried this floor plan. They are not heavy sellers in the used market as most people now want a slide out. In the 13k range you can buy this floor plan brand new. Used you should have plenty of options in the 5k - 9k range without having to accept any damage. The prices you reference above seem high, especially the 2007, and certainly since they have some sort of damage. There is no need to buy something with any existing damage unless they are practically giving it away. I suggest you keep looking.

If this is your first camper I suggest you find the cheapest one you can that is in good, resellable condition. I agree that this is a good floor plan to start with. You'll figure out what you want / don't want in a camper and be looking to upgrade in a year or two anyway. You may not believe me, but most all of us on here started with a camper we though we'd have for ever and then got something else a few years later. You won't know what's really important to you until you use something for a season or two first. Some models of this floor plan will have dedicated storage for the kids clothes, many will not, that is important to us. Counter space is the other thing that these models generally lack.
  • I'm not familiar with the particular Pilgrim you reference, but we have enjoyed ours!

Our 2006 Pilgrim has not given us any problems... it's even had two large pine trees land on the front which was easily repaired and still in service with no issues 2+ years later.

    Happy Camping!
    John.
