Just letting you know,I would stay away from the 1161 in spite of what all the "experts" tell you including Sleepy.I had a 2004 1161 and bought it "in excellent shape" When I got the heavy wood sucker home I discovered the slide was starting to sag and had a 3/8 " gap that you could see thru. Unless you want to rebuild this POS like Sleepy did
then beware.
I absolutely agree with you... do not buy a 2004 or a 2003 or a 2002 Lance 1161 or including mine unless you have the skill and time to work on it... and the mindset to handle the aggravation.
The 2005 lance 1161 is a totally differnet camper (but looks the same)
The OP is getting this one... I do recommend it after he does his careful inspection.
The sag under the slide can be permenantly repaired for $17... and a little effort.
As far as weight... there are many TC's that are heavier... you just have to have a truck that can handle them. Think about TC's with 3 slide outs, even 2 slide outs... TC's with basements and bigger tanks, water, grey and black... they take big dually trucks.
Why do I like the 2003 Lance 1161's? More windows... 9 total and the regular emergency hatch (no Heike Hatch) I would be totally happy if I had the adzel outside wall covering. I've never noticed the weight, Janet drives in a lot of the time as we crisscross the country. I'd never recommend that anyone buy ours, but a lot of people that see it want it... or one thats similar including the Lance 1191's
