Above tank Genny platform

Considering adding one so I don't have to haul it in the bed of the truck all the time, just the fuel can.

Opinions, good, bad, experiences?

  • The one from etrailer. I like it. Some of it depends on how you use the rig and as mentioned about fumes if a side window is close and if you sleep in it. On the rear is probably better if you sleep with it running vs using it for lunch stops or hot afternoons in the desert. One way or the other you will notice it through the TT frame but that is a handy location and easy to use. Either way it's nice to have them mounted and wired in with a transfer switch and then top it off with a remote start and show DW what the buttons do. If you bolt it in find a way to give it an extra layer of protection that requires something like an extra bracket or something be removed in order to unbolt it.
  • I have my generator mounted in the back of my trailer. Its great there but it does throw off the balance. I get some sway when towing at 60 mph. Not bad but that's the price you pay. I have a husky sway control on mine but it still wants to wander abit.
  • I seriously considered one too. The struggle to get my 100+ lb generator up there and then to fill the gas tank has swayed me away.

But on second thought, maybe using the truck tailgate as a platform to lift and service it up there might be OK. Hmmm...
  • not sure why, but it seems to me like a bad idea adding a 50-100 pound pendulum up high on the a-frame of a trailer. I like to have my generator as far away as possible while it runs, mostly so I can't smell the stink from burning what passes as gasoline in these parts.
  • Had looked at it, decided DW wasnt going to want me firing that up right at the head of the bed when I got up for coffee in the mornings.
  • Interesting, had never seen one of these, but I think I'd still prefer my generator in the back of the truck. With it in the truck I can park it further away and I also have a front window so I wouldn't be able to raise the flap.
