AC proper cooling Temp

**I was setting in my drive way when I took the temp**

too dangerous for me to drive and try to aim that little red dot gun.

today, my wife rode with me to town, she said the air felt very cool coming out the vents, it needed nothing, was working fine.

and it did feel cold, so as in all situations:

if she is happy, then the world is fine and there will be no problems.

Dodge is famous for broken dampers - check them.. Heater Treater makes the fix - mine are in the garage waiting for someone to install them. I'm still plugging the hot water in the summer until they are put in. The new autos have CCOT and they cycle the compressor to keep from freezing the evap so we feel the temp cycles. Most of old cars with factory AC kept the compressors running but they used EPRs so they could run just above the freeze point indefinitely. Hence, meat locker temp. The old add- on ACs used a tstat in the discharge to keep the evap thawed. Some of them would actually build up heavy frost on the evap before cycling the compressor. I insulated the cold line, from the orifice tube to the firewall and insulated the accumulator and charged by superheat and subcooling. The oem charge was a few ounces too much. I weighed the charge and I hit zero SH and the lowest possible evap temp 3 oz. before the recommended charge. I seldom have to run mine blower above 2, even where I live. Craig

Your A/C might be fine, you might have a blend door issue.

Hi,

45F is actually pretty good.

If you are at idle, then the engine RPM and compressor might be turning around 800 RPM, while at road speed it might be 2-3 times that fast. So you will pump more freon while at road speed than at idle.

If you are on "Max Air" so it is recirculating, and driving down the road while someone is checking the temp, then 45 is still good, but you might be able to get 1 or 2 degrees cooler. The dealership will probably tell you anything below 55F is within spec on a warm day.
