I keep my fan on high, so the fan runs when the compressor is off. Otherwise, I'd suffocate in our closed off bedroom. When we're alone, I'll keep my door open and run an external fan on the kitchen counter into the bedroom. The fan starting and stopping wakes me up. So I keep it on.
