A/C Water Drip

Our travel trailer's A/C is leaking. I am pretty sure that the drain pipe is clogged up. We are trying to get by with not getting it fixed for now because I am on a limited income.

The water is coming out, like gushing out when we turn the A/C off after it has been running all day. And when it is running, there are drops of water that drop down from the unit.

Is there any danger of causing any long-term affects to the A/C if we can get by for a little while longer (about one more month) before getting it fixed. Why or why not?

Thanks, Sean

Thanks for that. Not to thread jack, but I have a similar issue but ONLY when I run the A/C while driving (motorhome) or when I move it after running it. My theory is that the drain pain is filling up and then spilling when I move. BUT, I've checked the drain hole and it's fine. It seems to drain properly when in operation - water runs off the roof. Any ideas as to why this might be happening? Maybe water pooling where it shouldn't be?

Anyhow, to the OP - water can be very damaging. If it's running inside it's also probably getting inside your roof. I don't know about your rig, but in mine I can see the plywood roof if I remove the inside A/C cover. When it leaks inside, it soaks the plywood. As I described above, mine doesn't do it very often but it is a concern. It probably is an easy fix if you can get someone on the roof to take a look.
  • Remove 'shroud' ---that will allow you to the 'sealed' cover over the evap coil and drip pan under the evap coil

The drip pan collects the condensation that drips down from evap coil as the warm air flows thru the evap coil and cools
The condensation then drains out via drip pan drain holes..usually two/one at each end of evap coil. Condensate drains out onto roof and runs off

The drain holes get clogged with debris/slime etc condensate then accumulates getting carried over into room air discharge plenum/ducts etc and then when the fan stops the condensate overflow drip pan and leaks out thru ceiling grill.

The drain is a simple opening in the pan of the AC unit. Dont let it keep dripping inside. It WILL do damage.

    This ^

  • It is inside the camper. I removed the cover from the top of the unit and I looked for the drain pipe but couldn't find it. It is a new generic unit that replaced the original unit about two years ago. Since it is a generic unit, I have been unable to find any documentation to find out where the drain pipe might be.
  • It is an easy fix, if you can't get on the roof, maybe a friend can. The fix might take 15 minutes.

Water is the most destructive thing in existence, get it fixed.
