Been driving a couple new trucks ... all three seem to have an acceleration issue ... a hesitation from dead stop, and if you "punch it's on the highway about 70ish ... all three (Ford 250 6.0 Gas and GMC 2500HD 6.0L Gas) and it's like it takes a pause and then accelerates. My 2003 GMC 6.0L has never done that, and still doesn't. When I tap my pedal, it jumps right out there, no hesitation, no pause - andit leans you right back in the seat if I want it.SO, what's with that -- it's a definite pause ... so much so, at the 70ish speed, the truck almost 'dipped' and then accelerated.I'm wondering if it's just a computer delay, while it send signals, but that makes no sense - computers are instant relay a signal. If one truck, I could imagine just a miss - that's what it feels like, a miss spark signal ... almost a misfire, although it's only a feel, it's not a sound, no backfire - just the delay. It's a second or so, but definite, very definite. No doubt in my mind. And all three brand new trucks ... very puzzled Monkey ...

New vehicles do not use a throttle cable they use an electronic gas pedal that sends a message to the computer that sends a message to the rest of the vehicle. There is a delay between stepping on the pedal and acceleration. Could be that. Or, you didn't mention if there was a turbo charger involved. There is a thing called turbo lag. From the time you hit the pedal to the time the turbo spins up creates a lag. Could be that. Or, it could be both.

Was it a Ford 6.0 Diesel or a 6.8L gas?If its the diesel, some turbo lag is normal, but it can get worse if things are running right. If it's the V10, its probably low fuel pressure which means the PCM has to compensate by adjusting the injector timing. In other words, not normal. I would expect the GM 6.0 to be the same.

Electronic throttle lag. I too have noticed a lot of new cars experience this.

If you're talking used you can get a programmer and make it as harsh or smooth as you want. New FI engines have REALLY good throttle input. That being so, the manufactures don't want just a tap at a stop sign to torch the tires so they smooth the program out.To get the best performance out of my truck I have to "roll on" the throttle not punch it. It takes getting use to and I still don't like it after 8 years.

Kinda interesting now -- drove a 2013 Z-71 2500 4x4 yesterday, and it exhibited that throttle lag, and rode pretty rough as well.

But after driving five total in the last couple weeks (For, 2 GMC, 2 Chevy) we drove one 2500HD that ran smooth as silk and no throttle lag, very smooth acceleration ...

SO, we went to buy the 2013 ... but will wake up Tuesday with a 2015 parked in the driveway, and NO throttle lag. MUCH smaller wallet, but happy campers.

Ya, it's there. After 4300 miles on my truck now it's getting better, but it doesn't bother me too much, it's not a race car, and I'm old. BTW, the Ford is a 6.2, not 6.0 and I love mine!

Drive by wire. The computer makes the engine back off the power momentarily until the electronically controlled transmission changes down 1 or 2 gears. My truck makes a brief pause on the 1-2 upshift. All designed to extend transmission life by preventing hundreds of horsepower eating up the clutches while they're trying to engage.

Roll on the throttle instead of matting it in a split sec, I suspect it may not be such a 'nanny'
found that in a friends 6.0 -mat it and it would bog, roll on and it would go go go .

I'm looking at a very nice deal tomorrow - and if it does it (fourth one I drove in a week, all did it) I just want to know it's not a huge deal, and that it's more an adjustment than a 'broke for life of truck' ... a really nice, and new 2013 Chevy 6.0L gas 4x4 X-Cab 2500HD ... Yup, the suicide doors - love it. Don't like the Crew Cab at all, nor the Double Cabs nearly as much -- but thought I'd be stuck with it because I couldn't find one like this. UP popped this devil, several actually, all at once on a web-search.

I'm actually surprised a dealer would send a buyer out in one tuned like this, if it is easily fixed ... I certainly wouldn't, I'd pick the best running demo in the yard and keep it that way.

But, I'm betting most buyers don't feel it, or don't know it shouldn't do it like that - or just say nothing ... and the sellers aren't driving, so don't feel it or don't know it, or don't recognize it themselves. But is was very apparent to me ...

the hesitation will actually lessen over time as the car learns your driving style. after a while you will not even notice it anymore! the tuner will take out any hesitation by removing the built in delay the manuf. puts in. it is kind of like a torque management system. it`s not necessary, but really helps out. go to 5 Star Tuning and check out there website. they have a section that explains the drive by wire and how the tuner eliminates it.

Lag was probably less of a problem than the unexpected backfire.

I hope I live long enough to see the Prius hybrid technology upsized into a HD pickup for towing duty gas or diesel.

All of the newer vehicles I've driven display that characteristic. And as for my cars and trucks, it has never gone away. Maybe it's because I share them with a more patient driver. It's annoying but I try to live with it. My old '97 F150 is very long in the tooth but not at all stock, I love it's instant response.

If driven aggressively, much of the lag on the Fords just disappears, due to it's adaptive strategy. The 2 GM 3500's I had, It never disappeared, but the shifting di get more aggressive if I was hard on the throttle consistently. Much less torque management on the Fords too.
