Having only the six gallon water heater our family of five could not get the showers we all like so I added a tankless on demand heater. Some members of this forum gave me some input on this and "psusan" gave me a link to the subject that I read as well. So here is the finished product after fabricating a bracket and adding the plumbing and hardware. I am interested to hear how it works out for you. i would like to add this feature but I haven't heard many who liked it after the install. No doubt, the issues will eventually get resolved and hope it works out for you.

I did a test with our older unit and it worked well our last time out in Michigan. My DW loved it and that is what really matters. I was able to give all three kids showers one after the other with no issues. I bought this bigger unit for it's capacity and now the mounting is easier to set up as I will be able to take the unit out of the rubbermaid bin and just hang it on the bracket. attach the three hoses and it's off to the races. I will update as we use it more. From what I've read I may have to tweak the flow/temp settings and once dialed in I dont expect any issues. Thanks for your comment.

So then you still have your original water heater inline so you have hot water. This is just for shower time correct? Looks like way to much work and expense to be worth it! But not I am not bashing, I do the same thing on RV projects all the time. That's why I call my Campers a Hobby.

That is correct. This is for the shower only. I spliced into the hot water line going to the shower because I am lazy and ididnot want to affect the flow on the cold side. We use the cold to regulate the shower temperature. I do or even start the six gallon heater unless I am going to do dishes soon.

I thought I would post an update on this mod. Two years later and I made a couple of changes after some trial and error. The unit would shut off now and then but restart if we shut off the water from the shower and restarted.

I changed the full hookup water connection to a "Y" type connector and ran a separate supply line to the heater directly with no pressure regulator. I had read that low flow could be shutting the unit down. The shut down problem still persisted.

After much trial and error and research I found that if I bypass the water temp sensor by connecting the white wires together the heater will not shut down. Now the mod works flawlessly. If anyone has any questions on how to bypass the sensor I will be glad to share ... it is simple.

You could just wrap the PEX with electrical tape to protect from UV.

The camper is just one year old and I have run the stock water heater on gas ans electric at the same time. I have taken the camper back to the storage area so I cannot look to see the brand. The six gallon couldn't keep up with us. The set up to me is not an issue, maybe ten minutes max,well worth the time if not only that my wife is happy and can take a long shower and relax. I personally would take navy showers and be OK, but leaving the hot water run is much better to me. I we were to ever boondock the stock heater is still there and in line, all I have to do is turn it on. Thanks for your comments.

Nice work. But like others have said looks like a lot of extra work with set up and take down.

We have 4 and at times 5 people shower back to back with a 6 gallon gas/elec. When using both heating sources elec and propane it recovers very fast and we never run out of HW. Not sure what brand (Sub or Atwood) your stock tank is but our Atwood has no problem. I’m usually last showering and take a pretty long shower and don’t run out. By the time I’m dressed I always check outside and normally it is already off and fully recovered. Just curious, is your stock tank gas and elec? Certainly no one likes a cold shower so if yours can not keep up that is a good alternative.
