Adding 2nd AC Unit

I have a 2014 Salem Villa 402 QBQ. As of now it only has one AC Unit, when it was real hot this summer it didn't much more than keep up, the TT is wired for the 2nd AC Unit, but it's in the master bed room, where it's the cooler place in the TT already. The bunkhouse is the warmest part of the TT. Other than having to make a hole and get wiring to it, what would be wrong with putting the 2nd AC Unit in the Bunkhouse.
I am have some work done to the TT next week and going to have the duct work looked at because the flow to the bunkhouse, is not real strong. I have also considered to restrict the air flow to Master Bedroom to make more flow to Bunkhouse.
Thanks for any ideas or concerns ahead of time.

  • A small fan, not to cool you but to distribute the air inside, can help a lot. I'd put one in the cool part of the trailer, blowing toward where it's warm. Helps whether you have one AC or two.
  • I'm not against putting the 2nd AC unit on and plan on it soon, but hated to put it in the coolest part of the TT.
  • We tried restricting the air flow from the coolest parts so as to force more into the warmest parts. Minimal help. We also velcroed the insulation like you use to cover your windshield while parking over all the windows. Minimal help. Maybe both together would do the trick for you, but it did not for us. Louisiana and Texas are just hot.
  • Yes I do have 50 amp service.

I'm not sure, but may be wrong, don't think our bunkhouse's windows will work for putting a AC Unit in, and I think I want something to stay in place permanently.

    Thanks for the ideas.
  • We were in a hot spot last year and I just put a small 110/5000 btu air conditioner in the bedroom window(escape hatch). Worked like a charm and my Honda 2000 gen ran it well when I just had to try it..
  • Do you have 50 amp service or 30 amp service? Some 30 amp trailers are pre-wired for a second unit. You can only run one of the units at a time on 30 amp service. Pick which one. You can run them both if you have 50 amp service. Our KZ Spree 320 had 30 amp service, but really needed a second AC in Louisiana. That's why we now have the Columbus fifth wheel. It would have been too expensive to upgrade to 50 amp service when the wife wanted a new trailer anyway.
