I added a second battery in the wheelwell this year and added a heavy plug through the camper side into the battery box, that I can reach through the access door to disconnect. I put a switch in that lets me run them independently or in parallel. I plan to mostly run independent so I can use it as a gauge of how much power I have left. Also currently my batteries are mismatched, this gives me the option in the future to go parallel when I have matched batteries. I also mounted a meter by the switch to keep track of the state of the batteries.
