I don't have an Outback, nor do I know anything about them, so take this for what it is worth: when I bought another trailer way back when, I was told if it didn't have a ladder, the roof was meant to be walked on. Just check it out...
X2 My owners manual states that you should not walk on the roof without using plywood or similar to spread out the weight. If you stayed exactly on the rafters you should be OK, but I won't risk it.
I just won't carry so much stuff, that it won't all fit in the truck and trailer.
