Adding pocket doors in place of curtains?

After years of renting/borrowing we are looking to purchase our own travel trailer to be used at a seasonal site starting next year. We have researched and seen many models and one of our big hold ups is finding a decently priced TT that has DOORS to the master bedroom area and bunk room area rather than CURTAINS or ACCORDIONS.

Has anyone added doors to a trailer or modified their trailer to give a little more privacy in the bedroom areas? We have two young kids that wouldn't do well with only a curtain keeping them in their "bedroom."
  • We had very nice sliding doors to the master bdrm that slid behind the entertainment center, so not true pocket doors. We took them out in favor of curtains for several reasons:

    1) Heavy curtains absorb sound, not reflect it and amplify it like hard surface doors;
    2) The dog can move in/out of the curtains without scratching at the doors;
    3) The doors took up valuable storage room at the end of the bed;
    4) The doors blocked the bedroom TV when open, so the doors had to be closed to see the TV;
    5) Door hardware was constantly out of alignment from road travel.

    DW did a marvelous job on the drapes, used fabric on the LR side that matched the couch and fabric on the BR side that matched the bedspread.

    I will admit the doors looked fancy and impressive when we bought the TT, but after one season we knew they had to go. Just not practical IMO.

    Way back I saw an accordian door that had been custom made out 1/4" oak plywood. The guy did a nice job and it looked like it belonged.

    I don't thing that pocket doors would hold up well in a TT. They are tempremental enough in a house and a pain to repair went the need arises.
  • Being a registered contractor for many years, though not including RV's I think pocket doors were invented by the devil in Hates to reap souls for blaspheming words directed to them. My recommendation, though not perfect, a folding door. IMO. Good luck.... :)
