I just purchased an 89RB, I couldn't make up my mind between the two. I liked the larger tanks on the 86 but my wife liked the sliding door and more open feel of the 86. I sure like the dump valve setup on the 86 better.
The one window also played a part with us deciding on the 89, but the 86 has more privacy.
As you may see, I'm conflicted but they had no 86's left so the decision was made for me.
PS: They 89 uses some aluminum in the framing, I think the 86 does as well. If you haven't already I'd suggest you check the reviews of both of those campers on truck camper magazine.
I'm coming from a 1999 810ws so the 89RB is a pretty similar plan, my old 1999 has no sign of any leaks so they seem to be a decent camper to me.
