Advice for a Truck Camper novice

I have owned everything from an Airstream travel trailer to a 40' Eagle I never converted. Had a Airstream B190 that I loved, but sold about a decade ago. I have wanted a truck camper forever but never had enough truck to handle one.

Now I have a 2008 F350 6.4 SRW SB 4x4. It has a camper package, dual alternators and 11,400gvwr package. I bought it last year to haul equipment. It has less than 40k miles. This year I have the itch to drive from Oklahoma to Alaska and spend a month or more exploring.

I currently think a Lance 855 would be a good choice for me. I have avoided considering slides since I want to be able to get in and out easily without dealing with a slide out.

I looked over the Lance camper line at a dealer and they look nice. I have yet to see any others so I would like opinions others I should consider. I'm looking for a full featured unit with generator.

Thanks for looking!

  • There is a truck camper rally in Kerrville, TX April 4-6 and there will be new TCs to view from Princess Craft in Round Rock, TX and most attendees will have their units open for viewing.

The Guadalupe River RV Resort has cabins to rent.
