- Highway_4x4ExplorerI have done it with no issues with my 31 foot bumper pull and have seen huge class A MH's with towds on it. So just look ahead, drive smart and don't be in a hurry. Know where you want to stop before you pass it by so you don't have to turn around.
- YC_1NomadDo think about reservations though. Can be a bit of an issue on short notice on weekends especially.
- Driving US 101 isn't any problems.
It is the sight seeing that is the issue. Many of the small towns and even larger ones like Newport do not have good access for RVs. That is why you would want to drop the trailer to visit.
Depoe Bay is a good example of virtually no parking for larger rigs. - old_guyExplorerit is a beautiful drive and easy to get caught up rubber necking, so drive cautiously. had a friend who was involved in a head on collision on 101 because the guy turned his head to site see and went over the line. don't try to pass unless you have lots of room, and believe me there is never that much room. the speed limit is 55 but every one drives 40
- Earl_EExplorerIt is a very wide two lane road with lots of passing lanes. Absolutely no problem. Don't know where any challenge will be as long as you take your time and let others by when need be. Hopefully you can camp in several spots along the way so you can use your truck to poke around and see the little spots, explore, etc. Others are right that N to S is more scenic because you can pull off the road on the ocean side of the highway. However, most of the pull offs won't have a place for you to park with the trailer in tow.
- CA_TravelerExplorer III35' is a non issue, enjoy the trip.
- spoon059Explorer IIWhen I was a kid we did a cross country trip. Took the PCH from around LA all the way up to Oregon. It was a great trip and not a tough drive from what I remember.
- LVJJJExplorerI've traveled that highwy, is beautiful and a challenge for a TT. Y-Guy is right, pull off often and let traffic go by. There's a lot of traffic on the road and hotheads will do dumb and dangerous things if they have to follow you for miles, lots of curves so they can't pass much. Plus, hogging the road gives us all a bad name.
- Y-GuyModeratorNot a problem, we've been from Astoria to Brookings on Hwy 101 and had no issues. Highway 101 is very busy with a lot or RVs. Obviously some sections are better then others. Watch your speed in the tight corners north Florence to Lincoln City. There are a lot of bikers on the Highway in the summer, and parts of the highway are barely wide enough for and RV and them. Last think make use of the passing lanes and pull outs as you drive.
- samsontdogExplorerI spend the summers towing my 34 ft TT along the Oregon, Wash Coast. Slow and easy. We leave early any time it is a get away day to the next place along the coast
