It's funny how people talk about how much wind resistance makes a difference......which it does!
Just don't tell anyone you plan on using a wind deflector or you will get laughed at and told it won't work.
I can tell you what does work; put 2 kayaks on the roof of your truck/cap. I see a 2MPG increase with them and on some trips I never take them off to be used. They work and I never get comments why they're there...
We also carry 2 kayaks on the topper. I often wondered what effect they had on wind resistance. I've never gone camping without them, so I don't know any difference.
You do carry them upside down, don't you? They will have to opposite effect if they are right side up. I can't imagine why so many transport them that way, but they do...
hmmm, we carry ours upside down so they don't fill up with rain.
But I've never noticed any diff in mileage when they are on or off.
