If you really want to annoy yourself, get a Scangauge, like I did -- then when you are driving into a headwind, you can watch your mileage drop from 11 mpg to 9. Very entertaining.
Seriously, I have a tiny trailer (in terms of weight), but my mileage is about the same as folks who have much bigger trailers. And I never go over 60, and I drive carefully, and I still get bad mileage. It is the price of camping, and I am happy to be able to pay it!
The only time that weight makes a real difference is on very steep hills, both up and down. When we have a full water tank, I can feel it -- the engine RPM is a little higher than with an empty tank. No big deal.
