My F-150 with a 4.8L V8 got around 16-17 around town, my Dodge 2500 with a 5.7L Hemi V8 gets around 12-13. There is a 1,500 lb weight difference between the two.
Simple math - a bigger more capable TV is going to be less efficient for around town short trips.
But as you mentioned - my F-150 would tow a 5,300 lb loaded Grey Wolf 26BH at 2,400 RPM at 60 mph. My Ram towed the same trailer at 1,800 RPM at 60 mph. It tows my 8,400 lb loaded Flagstaff at 1,800 RPM at 60 mph.
