Has anyone done a combo of weight distribution and air bags?????
John
I had a 2012 RAM 1500 5.7 Hemi and towed a 2013 keystone sprinter 266rbs. I had a wet tongue weight of 900lbs.
I had a set of airlift 1000s airbags installed within the could and ran separate lines out to the hitch.
I had some issues getting the hitch set up properly but this obviously a larger camper with a heavier tongue weight. Without the bars engaged my rear axle weight was 4,1## lbs. But with the bars engaged was like 36-3700lb. My issue ended up being that the trailer was nose high, never had an issue after correcting that.
I had my hitch set up so that it would work properly with about an extra 100lbs for firewood in the bed.
Whenever I added anything extra I tried to fill the bags to adjust accordingly. Never weighed it on different runs just how we would travel for long trips.
Needless to say they worked fine for the 3 years I had them and cost less than $100.
I moved a lot of firewood for personal use, 8-9 cords, and was the main reason I installed the bags. They definitely had there limitations but I found that useful as it prevented me from grossly overloading the truck.
I didn't notice much change in ride empty however my truck came with 10 ply tires as it was an outdoorsman. With the bags st there max of 35psi it rides similarly to my tv now, 16 RAM 3500. They raised my truck. 75" at 35psi also.
Hope this helps.
