That is fine but I have never seen anyone do any of this with a camper and I don't think that I have ever seen a camper that would survive doing that. If anyone is doing something this extreme then by all means loosen or remove the torsion bars.
I was just thinking about the fact that most hitches that I have seen are de-rated by 50% if a load distributing hitch is not used and in many cases the vehicle itself is. So basically, if you are pulling a trailer that the hitch and tow vehicle are both rated to pull without the load distributing hitch then it is safe to remove the torsion bars and they probably weren't even needed in the first place. If you are violating the tow rating of either by removing the torsion bars you probably don't really want to go there anyway.
