I just confirmed my suspicions on why Ford only wants a 25% correction. My truck has the flimsiest weight distributing hitch that I have ever seen. I would describe as a lightly re-enforced bumper with a 2" reciever. There are no stringers going forward at all. There are only 3 bolts on each side holding the assembly to the butt end of the frame. They just want to move the effective point of the load forward to the end of the frame to minimize stress on those bolts.
I will be shopping for a real hitch soon. I just hope that there are some good options out there.
