It doesn't look that hard but I wimped out and had the dealer install mine. I believe they charged 2 hours labour. I really had no way to get it up on the roof and didn't have a garage to work in. Below is a video I found when I was looking into it.
It quite like the low profile of the unit but it is noisier than I would have hoped and it seems to draw more power than I expected. I could not run it with my Champion 2000w generator but the Honda seems to handle it fine other than 1 time I could not get it to start for some reason.

ps: just a curiosity I ntoiced. On my 89RB the a/c replaced the vent in the center by the fridge. I believe the vent layout is different in the 86. i'm guessing you'd replace the rear vent but then I wonder if you'd get as much cooling up to the cabover. I wouldn't imagine that the a/c would replace the cabover vent. I guess they moved the skylight farther forward on the 86 to get more light into the cabover because of the 'hallway'.
