- jmckelvyExplorerI installed a Pacbrake PRXB on my 06 RAM. It has the 48RE. The 06 model year is factory rated to use an exhaust brake. The brake control fully integrates with the ECM and Tow/Haul function. Works really well and you have on board air since the Pacbrake uses high pressure air for activation.
The hardest part was getting all the parts close enough together to reseat the two V band clamps. Ended up using ratchet straps to pull them together.
Not sure about installing one on an 01. - _40FanExplorerThe early versions of the 47RE had too small of a thrust bearing and they would eat themselves up. Manual trans and you are good to go.

Banks has an exhaust brake you install in the exhaust piping and has a transmission module that shifts the trains into the next lower gear as the rpm drops. I'm thinking of installing this system on my F350 Dually 4X4 7.3 liter. Will also have to install 4 inch exhaust system from the turbo back.
Google 7.3 exhaust brake. The 7.3 has a valve on the back of the turbo that can be turned into an exhaust brake on the cheap. With a few wiring mods, the converter can be locked up at the same time the valve is activated. All for less than $40! Make sure your third brake light works. - Cummins12V98Explorer IIIThe install is easy. As long as you have a way of keeping the trans locked up when letting off you will be fine.
- rhagfoExplorer IIIBest money spent on our 2001 Ram 2500!
- restlesswindExplorerMy PRXB PacBrake has worked great on my 04.5 Dodge CTD For the past 8 years.
I under stand that the Dodge 47RE transmission in the older Dodges had problems with the PacBrake. The later model 48RE auto that is in my truck has no problems with the PacBrake PBRX setup
I would contact the folks at PacBrake and get their opinion. - cmarqExplorerIt was only the auto trans on Dodge that would not take the pac brake I dont't rember all the details but it set up some kind of shear in the clutches and would burn them up,Std tranny is not a probelem
