Pacbrake control

I finally got the info i needed. It is a Pacbrake, i have the original paper work but no nanual. It is an exhaust brake, i lubed all the moving parts, and its an engine retarding brake. The switch is low and high which determines how many cylinders the retarding affects. Im going to check but high just might have a dash light out.

Having both, I thought was rare, so you have another switch for the exhaust brake?
Are both made by PAC or is the two stage engine brake made by Jacobs?

Sounds like the first order of business, is determining exactly what kind of brake you have.
Are you sure that it's an exhaust brake, rather than an engine brake?
Are you sure that it was made by PAC or possibly JACOBS, instead?
The latter would be better and JACOBS (JAKE) seems to have a larger market share, over PAC, for the engine brakes, which usually have two stages.

It has factory switch, wires to all the contacts and turns something on in both positions because i can hear ut with the engine off. Gillig said one position was for retarding and the other just the exhaust brake, thats what the schematic showed. They just don't know which and how to operate the different settings.

Or wonder if he has an engine brake, made by PAC, instead of JACOBS, might be a better question and both companies, do make both types.
Looking at the engine would tell one, but with guessing from afar and with having the ind. light in only one position, I think someone has just installed a double throw switch, where a single throw would do.
As for it working, if the OP can't feel it, then it probably isn't and may be frozen open. I just put some lube on mine the other day, using some 3000 degree F brake caliper paste lube, but thinking I should be using a spray can from PAC or other. I do leave it on, at all times, so that should help keeping it free or hopefully so.

PacBrakes (all exhaust brakes for that matter) are either ON or OFF. No two positions as you can have with an engine compression brake. So, no idea what a two position switch would do.

Pull the switch and see if there are wires to both positions-- I kind of doubt it.

I have a 98 with a pacbrake the middle is off up is high down is low. While driving and taking foot off go pedal it should be evident if it is working.

I had a pacbrake installed on my 2001 dodge 1 ton. It had only an on/off toggle switch. Maybe who ever installed it had a 3 way toggle switch by mistake. On page 18 of this manual it shows an on/off switch
