Looking at the engine would tell one, but with guessing from afar and with having the ind. light in only one position, I think someone has just installed a double throw switch, where a single throw would do.
As for it working, if the OP can't feel it, then it probably isn't and may be frozen open. I just put some lube on mine the other day, using some 3000 degree F brake caliper paste lube, but thinking I should be using a spray can from PAC or other. I do leave it on, at all times, so that should help keeping it free or hopefully so.
