Totally agree on the poor quality of the AF mattress. After three years we finally gave up trying to fix the supplied mattress and bought this one:

What a difference. Nice and firm. Very comfortable and we couldn't be happier. Of course mattress are a very individual thing so your mileage may vary.
Unfortunately, I would bake to death in a foam mattress. Its a nationally known issue. Many people sleep way too warm on a foam mattress.
