Airing down tires on dually for beach

I've had these Staun Deflators for 20 years now and they work great. I have them preset at 15 psi which is fine for most beaches around here. These are nice because you can screw them on, enjoy a cold beverage, and they automatically stop letting air out when they reach the pre-set pressure.

If you have regular LT E rated tires you won't have any issues breaking the bead as long as you stay above 10psi. Anything less than 10psi puts you at risk for breaking the bead.

If you are new to the beach it's a good idea to go out with someone your first couple trips. Also be aware of the state and county requirements depending on which permit/beaches you plan on using.

Yup, very tough to bead up a tire coated with mud, pebbles, sand, etc even in a shop.

I bought a truck that had braided steel line with check valves on each pair of duels. Wow! Easy to check/air. Put them on the truck I was working. Got to a bean field, MFIC says "Dump just this side of the gap in tree line. Somewhere in that field the dirt pulled/broke valve stem. PITA to get all the dirt out of tire. Bet sand would be about as bad.

I remember a issue of Peterson 4Wheel and Offroad 20 years ago they did a air down test of tires in sand. They had a bunch of different style tires and spent the day testing them. Time and time again aired down tires easily went twice as far as fully inflated tires on their test dune.


If you have rims with a inner safety bead dont be afraid to get down to 20 or lower.

Might want to have a contingency plan if you break the bead.

I just latch my clip on air chuck on one tire at a time. It lets air out pretty fast. I can tell by the sound of air rushing out when I get close to the lower 40's that I run in the rears when not towing or hauling.
